Artist Statement

My inspirations come from such diverse elements as landscape, figures, still life, I Ching, driftwood, Buddhas, sea life, bones, burned driftwood, and more. Since creating my early icon oil paintings, I have moved onto watercolor and large charcoal totem drawings in my most recent bodies of work.

I find things in nature that intrigue me and bring them back to my studio, studying them as they become subjects of my paintings and drawings.

I communicate visually. I have an idea, a jumping off point. I start working and often rely on controlled experiments to lead me. My paintings and drawings are meditations on my chosen subjects. And of course the medium dictates some of my choices.

I tend to work in series that can keep me focused. These can last from one season to several years.
